On 24 January, Defend Democracy's Director was honoured to participate as expert in a European Commission foresight workshop about the impact of AI on democracy. She said:

"We tried to come up with some positive scenarios too, but that was much harder than dystopian ones, like AI's take-over of politics and state capture by Big Tech."

On 16 January we visited the exposition 'Changemakers' at the Parlamentarium, followed by our #DemocracyDrinks.

Our guests and our team were inspired by the creative ways in which young artists and activists engage in the defence of democracy through 'artivism' and social networks.

Defend Democracy joined over 270 organisations in urging EU Commission President Von der Leyen to uphold the EU's rules that protect people, nature, and democracy and to prioritise these in its decision-making processes.

Defend Democracy joined 40+ organisations for an urgent call to the EU Commission: stand up to bullying by Big Tech and its allies in the Trump administration. Europe must commit to strong enforcement of DSA, DMA, GDPR and other laws to protect our democracy, economy and security.
